About Tummy Tuck Surgery
Many of us have wished for a flat tummy, and yearned for the sort of shape that looks equally good in jeans or a skirt.
Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a “tummy tuck” is a surgical procedure which flattens your abdomen by removing extra fat and skin and tightening abdomen muscles. A Tummy Tuck can dramatically reduce the appearance of a dropping or protruding abdomen, flattening the tummy and reducing bulges. The surgery reduces the gap between the rectus muscles, removes excess skin and re-positions the navel.
Abdominoplasty can also be a recommended procedure for men and women who were obese at one point in their lives and after weight reduction have sagging abdominal skin. If you have surgery following a significant weight loss it may involve considerably more work than is usual. It may be that if there is a great deal of excess skin, a full body lift may be required - please consult us for advice on this.
Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, or Both?
When the skin is in very good condition, with fewer stretch marks, and there is not much excess skin and muscle diastasis, liposuction alone may possibly give the desired result.
Minor Tummy Tuck (Partial Abdominoplasty)
A minor tummy tuck is often performed on patients whose fat deposits are less, located below the navel and require shorter incisions. This procedure takes approximately one hour. Most patients will require a full tummy tuck, however.
What Happens in Surgery?
A Tummy Tuck is performed under general anaesthesia. A full Tummy Tuck usually lasts two or more hours, depending on the extent of work required. Your surgeon will probably sugggest including liposuction as a part of your procedure for the best results. When we see the photos and pass them on to the surgeon for advice we will let you know if this si necessary and advise any extra cost for this.
The incisions will be stitched in several layers, mostly with absorbable sutures, drainage is inserted under the skin and the abdominal wall is supported by a compressing bandage (which looks a little like an old-fashioned corset) which is recommended to be worn for about a month.
Even elderly clients with loss of skin elasticity can substantially improve the look of their abdomen.
As part of the operation, you can get rid of scars (after Cesarean section etc.) from previous surgeries in the lower part of the abdomen.
You will have to stay in the clinic for two days after the surgery until the drain is removed and we then take you back to the hotel. We will bring you back to the clinic for check ups and changes of dressing.
Our clinic insists you remain in Brno for at least 7 days after the operation. On the last day the surgeon will remove some of the fine sutures before you fly home. The reasoning behind this is that the surgeon who completed the surgery prefers to check on your progress to make sure your scar is healing cleanly and well: cosmetic surgery stitches are very fine and it is important that they are removed correctly to ensure a perfect outcome.
Abdominoplasty causes a long pencil line scar which is usually hidden along the bikini line. For major tummy tucks, a vertical scar may also be present, extending above the re-positioned navel. Over the following months this will fade. The regular use of Vitamin E Cream or BIO-OIL will help to reduce the scars, as will a healthy diet, exercise and drinking plenty of water.
